Healthy versus Unhealthy Fats

A low carb diet means that healthy fats need to be increased. However the type of fat matters greatly.

Healthy natural fats include extra virgin olive oil, butter, ghee, coconut oil, and rendered animal fats.

Seed and vegetable oils are heavily processed and often oxidised, causing excessive Omega 6 fats in the body resulting in inflammation and so are to be avoided. Read more here. And this includes processed spreads. If it says “I can’t believe it’s not butter” on the label, that’s because it isn’t!

Healthy fats make foods so tasty and delicious, try frying your eggs gently in butter. Its worth remembering that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is not suitable for frying as it burns easily.
